I generally support Obama, but I don't think I have enough knowledge and experience to judge his medical care program. This is my opinion only and if you can prove me wrong - I'm here to listen your arguments.
As you may know the car insurance is mandatory to everybody all over US (and most of the world). And as I know nobody calls it "communism". It's done in such a way because it's just wise to share responsibility over all drivers and nobody argues with that. Even you have car that costs less than insurance for it - you have to pay, as long as you drive it on public roads. Because shit happens.
Now let me ask you this: even you are OK and healthy - can you get sick? And if you got a flu, can you infect other people? Can you infect let's say 10 fellows? And what if some of them don't have enough income to pay for the doctor? It's not your problem/responsibility, right? But you are the one who infected them! You are the bad mother fucker this time! How about not insurance, but you will pay for their medicine and visits to the doctor this time? Right... No good, ha? I don't know all the details, but I don't think Obama invented something new. Such a system exists in Canada, European counties and from my experience works very well in Israel. And those countries are far from been socialistic or something like that - they are just developed enough to protect their citizens. All of them - poor, elder, crazy ones. Are we?
Unfortunately medical care is too expensive now and if (god forbid) something bad happened to you, you can loose all your savings in one month or so... But the same thing is true with real estate ! If you house got damaged - insurance will help you to fix it. Is it a communism ? Really? I dunno what exactly is Obama doing, but I trust this guy. And system needs to be changed - that's for sure. The question is if we are mature enough for it.
In my opinion there is only one big difference between car, home and health insurance - cars and homes (most of them) belong to the banks, who provided financing and health belongs to you. So why you are OK to pay to protect banks, but not yourself?
